Heat stroke

Question
My pug just died from heat stroke. He was in my parents car on a 2 hour trip from my house to theirs. The windows were down and he had water available in a bowl to drink during the trip. He was panting, but he usually pants when we go on trips in the car. My mom says he drank a bunch of water and threw up then drank some more. They were about 2 mins from home when they looked back and saw that he wasn t moving. I feel so guilty but there is nothing I can do to change it now. My question is what could have been done differently and did he suffer much before he died. He was my baby and I can t stand to bear the thought of him suffering. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer
I just want to say that I'm sorry for your loss. Although when it comes to prevention, I think you did everything you could. Have you talked to a vet yet? If not, see what they have to say. He may NOT have died from a heat stroke. There might have been more to the dog's death. If a vet has confirmed that it was death by heat stroke, than it's more than likely your dog had a VERY high sensitivity to the heat. Did you take the dog outside very often? Are you sure the dog had complete access to the water? There's many possiblities. Let me know if this has helped you at all. Again, I'm very sorry.
