Question

Hello again, Thanks for your reply and its great to know someon else has a JRT in the family as well :).Could I ask you a few things about your little girl?

Was she easy to house train?

How tall and heavy is she? I know the breed standards but my boston terrier is so small compaired to even the smaller boston typed standard shes 11 pounds and seem to have stopped growing!

Are they Yuppy dogs? by this I mean when someones at the door or coming into the house who they don't see offen do they Bark until the person is settled into the house or the person at the door is gone?..or do they bark at the door at all? my boston is very quite and only barks in play with the other dogs.

Are Pugs more speacil needs then Boston terriersS? I know about eye and breathing problems all too well I was unaware my boston terier picked out and deposited on at 4 weeks and brought home at 8 weeks that she had stenic nares...I thought her snorts were normal but they weren't she had surgery for correction at 10 weeks of age and now is perfectly fine and active.

And lastly and odd question does your bug need to wear sweaters/coats to go out in cold weather? My boston needs a sweater when tis cold out for your walsk or she shivers...when its too cold she stays home because she will not accept doggy booties. Thanks again and I hope to hear back from you again soon.

Hello I was wondering if you could tell me abit about the Pugs temperment and suitability as a dog in a multi dog household? I currnelt have a 3 year old labrador retriver *Female, male jack russell terrier 2 years old...just turned acctually and a female boston terrier almost 7 months old and will be spayed. I would love to add a purebred female pug late next year but have no idea if they will all get along.
-----Answer-----
Hi Tara. I have a male Jack Russell, and my female pug gets along with him pretty well. The only thing is that my Jack Russell is really hyper, and they end up playing most of the time. I leave them together during the day while I go to work, and they don't get into any trouble at all. They go really well with each other. Also, I've seen the way my pug acts with all kinds of other dogs, and she's really good with them all. She's not agressive or anything. Female pugs are VERY sweet! They should have no problem with any other dog.

They really are a joy to have around... I highly recommend them. =)

Answer
Hi again, Tara.

Bella, my pug, is now 7 mos. old... She's still being housetrained, but that's because we had her paper-trained and she's learning to go outside now. But she was a little difficult to paper-train. My suggestion is that you have to be ASSERTIVE. Don't let up until she has it down, otherwise they note your flaw.

Bella's not overweight at all. We feed her a scoop in the morning and one at night, and she's kept a good figure. We hardly ever give her walks... She gets enough exercise by playing with us all the time. She's small for the pug breed...But again, she's only 7 mos. She may keep growing. She's about 15 in. long... and about 9 in. tall.

She barks when unfamiliar people come into the yard, or are at the door, but when/if they come inside, it's all about greeting them and making them feel at home (if we are okay with the person being in the house, that is).

I'm not sure about the comparison with Boston terriers. I'm not too knowledgeable on them. But you are right about eye and breathing problems. Just talk to your vet about that, and I'm sure they'll tell you everything you need to know.

We keep a sweater on Bella during the winter months, and it seems to do fine. We keep her in the laundry room during the day... The door has a doggy-door for easy access to the backyard so she can stay in and keep warm and go out when she needs to go potty. The main temperature issue you need to worry about with pugs is overheating. They're not good with the heat at ALL. That's definitely something you should look into before purchasing a pug.

If there's anything else you'd like to know, please feel free to ask!
