i have a 17 month old pug male, all he does is bark, can't leave him alone for his excessive barking, honestly he sounds vicious, but really he is a pussycat, thinking of getting him a bark collar, just so i can take him out on walks

I am not familiar with bark collars. Before going that route, you may try just plain discipline. Whenever he barks, give him a swat or take that skin on the back of his neck and give him a little shake. Nothing hard but enough to know that his barking is a no-no.
If that doesn't work, I would talk to your vet about the collars. You could also contact the manufacturer to find out the success rate and make sure it is safe to use.
