Vaseline

Question
My one year old pug ate at least 3 table spoons of vaseline (Petro jelly)last night.  She has had her normal bladder movement, but has not had her normal bowel movement this morning.  Do I need to take her to our vet?

Answer
Hi Jim. Here's the snippet direct from the ASPCA website. "Petroleum jelly products contain petrolatum, which can cause gastrointestinal upset and have a laxative effect. And while not as volatile as other hydrocarbons, petroleum jelly may pose a slight risk for aspiration pneumonia if it gets inhaled into the lungs (via initial ingestion or vomiting).  Based on this information, we advise keeping petrolatum products out of the reach of your pets." So basically, if your pug didn't inhale  the product, I think she'll be okay. If she starts showing any signs of breathing problems, you might want to consider taking her into the vet; or at least talking to them about whether or not you should.
I hope I helped! Let me know if anything happens.
Jessica
