Overweight Pug

Question
Hi, I just adopted a male pug and he is over weight. I have a female that is 15lbs and she is healthy. He weighs 32lbs and he is 1 year old as of 4th of July. How can I get him to normal weight, without making him starve? I didn't get much back ground on him except they said "he likes to eat" So far, I found out that he doesn't eat dog food, they gave him scraps! NO!NO! BAD IDEA! Now, he suffers and finally started eating the dog food. I have had him for 3 days. My female eats mixed dry and wet food. So, I try to encourage him on the same. Her feet and his are same size so I'm figuring he should he same and her maybe a lil more since he is a boy. How can I get him back on track without felling guilty that he's still hungry?

Answer
Mel,

Switching to dog food will be a great improvement.  I would not worry too much about weight.  Just keep him on dog food and see what happens.  He should lose.  You could even just feed dry food.

You pug may be a bigger pug than your female.  It may be normal for him to be in the 20 something range.

Be patient.  It may take a while, but I think you will see him slimming down.
