Question
Hi. I have a 9 year old spayed bitch who has always been healthy. However, about 18 months ago she started salivating. Before it starts she always calls for attention by 'worrying' us. We have found that 2 halves of anti biotic or even paracetemal appears to clear it up in 24 hours but it always reoccurrs after about 10 days. I became convinced that she had tooth ache, so my vet agreed to put her to sleep and check. He found 2 loose teeth that he thought might be the reason but now bad ones. He removed the 2 and gave the others a good clean. We thought we'd cured it but within10 days, she was salivating again. Our vet has tried various courses of anti biotics but we are all baffled as to why just one tablet appear to clear the problem for a period. We do have one problem. If she find other dogs pooh, she will always eat it, however much we scold her. Please can you help.

Answer
Mike,

It sounds like it is from something she is eating.  If you notice that it only happens after she has eaten, especially things you don't want her to eat, then she could be reacting to what is in her stomach.

There are a couple things that could make her eat other dog's feces.  First make sure she is up-to-date on her de-worming.  Also, make sure you are feeding her a good quality feed.  Lack of nutrients and minerals could bring this behavior.

Hope this helps!!!
