Pug Puppy with Glaucoma???

Question
Hi there just a quick question, I pick up my pug puppy yesterday, today I brang him to the vet (the person told me he was vet check but I want my vet to look at him) He is a healthy pug except that she noticed that his eyes were a bit cloudy and there is a ring around them, she took the pressure and she said it was high. Could this be because he is young and he is still developing? If not is this normal to get glaucoma in both eyes at such a young age? thanks for your time.

Answer
Cherry,

I don't think this is because he is young and still developing.

It is common for pugs to get cloudy eyes, but it is usually from an eye scratch.  The reason it is common, is that it is very easy for pugs to get an eye scratch when they are young.  It usually happens from litter mates.

Pugs can also have cloudy eyes from dryness in the eyes.  That is common in pug to.

I am not familiar with high pressure.  I do not think that high pressure would be from an eye injury.  I do not think it is normal for a young puppy to have glaucoma.

You should ask your breeder if your puppy had had eye injuries.

Eye ointment will usually take care of any eye problems.

If you vet thinks your pup has glaucoma, you might want to see a specialist.
