Question
Hello, I have a 1 year old female fawn pug. She is purebred. Good weight. The problem is she is so hyper that we can't even pet her. She jumps on my 5 year old and treats him like a chew toy. She barks to the point that you can't hear yourself think. She chases cars, potties in the house, bites the heels of our other dog to the point that she makes him bleed. She can be trained since she knows all the basic commands but when you tell her to hush, she barks in your face, when you tell her no bite, she bites harder. I am at the point of giving her away to another home since I can not seem to fix these problems. my son and I have no attachment to her since she doesn't let us love her. Is this the right thing for me to do? Find a home that is better for her with more direct treatment? Thanks, Erica.

Answer
Most pugs are not like this but puppies, and they are puppies for two years, can be wild childs. I would take her to as many obedience classes as you can to learn that you are the pack leader and give her mind something to work on. She may just be too smart. How much is she crated during the day? How much play time and exercise does she get? If you can walk her several times a day and really tire her out, that may help as well.

If all else fails, she may be better off with a family that can cope with her high energy.

Give a little old senior any day.

Good luck!
