Allergic reaction in my pug

Question
QUESTION: Hi, i have a 11 week old pug. I took him into the vet today for shallow breathing. After an xray i was told his lungs were filled with fluid, due to an allergic reaction. Gave us some pills and sent us home. Any advice on this subject? He's still breathing shallow, and is just miserable. Is this a common thing? I cannot remember the name of one of the pills, but the other is a lasik? HE was given those in the office and i have more to give him tonight at bed time. IS there anything i can do to make him more comfortable? He can't even lay down. Thanks for any advice.

ANSWER: I am not a vet or a vet tech but it sounds to me like he has pneumonia. If you can sit up in a recliner and hold him so he can sleep upright, I would do that. The other medication is probably an antibiotic. The lasik (not sure how to spell it) is to remove fluid.

I would keep him warm and if you can have moisture in the air to help him breath that would be better. Think if him as a child. What would you do for an infant with congestion.

No, this is not a common thing and I would be very concerned if it was my puppy. Allergies are fairly common but not this severe. Has he recently been vaccinated?

I wish you the best and please keep me posted on how he is doing.

Thanks and good luck.

QUESTION: Thanks for your quick response. The vet was not very helpful at all and is not his normal vet. He is actually due for vax's tomorrow, but vet said to hold off to see how the meds work. There was no mention of pneumonia. He kept asking if he was bit by something, and no he wasnt. Kept asking was i sure. I'm prety sure, he's only outside to potty, and straight back in. I feel so horrible for him, he can only sit up. And is still struggling to breath. The vet asked did i want to leave him overnight for observation, i said no, now i'm feeling like i should've said yes. He said it wasn't required, but assured me the meds would help some. It's been about an hour and still no difference. Thanks so much for all advice. I really dont know what else to do.

Answer
I am really concerned about this poor baby. Are his nostrils open or does he have a very tight nose(stenotic nares)? I would definately not give vaccinations to a sick puppy.

I don't know where  you live but here it is very cold and snowy. I would not think a bug would be out in our climate.

Watch him very closely as he will get exhausted from trying to breath and not be able to lie down. Do you have an emergency vet in your area? I would for sure get him to his own vet tomorrow if possible.

Poor little thing.
