Question
QUESTION: Hi we are gettting a female poodle she is 8 weeks old and only 14 oz. We are worried that she is too small. Is this a normal size? Will she make it?
We will not get her until she is doing great on her own maybe around 15-20 weeks.
She comes from a litter of 5 she and her sister are the smallest at 14 oz, the rest are at 28oz. Will she catch up with them? Is she just going to be a tiny toy. Both parents are toys adv size.
Thank for any info.

ANSWER: That does sound small.  I doubt they will ever catch up to the littermates that are twice as big.  I am a little concerned about the  15-20 weeks.  Early socialization, from 6-12 weeks, is very important.  If they are going to be comfortable around people and little kids, they need to be exposed to them before 12 weeks.  In order to have a well balanced dog, you must take some risks with disease while they are young.

What should we do???? Our breader is letting us make the choice on what to do total refund and or another puppy.HELP

Answer
One of the biggest risks is parvo, see http://www.avma.org/communications/brochures/canine_parvo/parvo_brochure.asp  In getting a small puppy out places, it is possible to expose it to diseases.  Parvo is often fatal.  It does sound like the breeder is doing better than many.
