Question
My 2 year old poodle is constantly itching. She doesn't have fleas and is very healthy.  I've been using Oatmeal based shampoo from the vet, but can't seem to get her to quit itching. Is there a conditioner, a pill, anything that will help her?

Answer
Go to the base of her tail and pull the fur back.  If you can see or feel dark, reddish specks, she has fleas even if you haven't seen them.  Work with the vet to select which of the modern remedies will work best for you.

Cut out the baths all together relying on a daily brushing to keep her clean and fresh.

If almost all of her diet isn't a commercial dog chow, switch to one.  It is difficult to meet a dog's nutritional needs any other way.

If the above doesn't seem to help, check with the vet.  You could also try a different chow.  Don't listen to those that suggest you must switch to an expensive chow to solve the problem.  You just need a common brand with different ingredients.

One more thing might be to add a teaspoon of liquid cooking oil to her food every day.  Most of them are high in the linoleic acid dogs need.
