Feeding my Standard Poodle

Question
ok.
My 12 year old Cream Standard Poodle died 9/16.  She grieved over the dog (her best friend) who died July 18th.  We got Isabella (a black standard poodle (runt of the litter) for my cream standard poodle to perk her up.  She was already a year old.  I think if i had fed my other Standard poodle differently she would have lived longer.  We fed them purina from day one until their last day (age appropirately)  I thought i was doing the very best for them.  But now that I have a young Standard Poodle... I thought I would check in to things.  I heard that they need a special diet.  My question is, What is the best way for me to feed my one year old Standard Poodle.
Thank you,
Wendy

Answer
Standard poodles only live to be between 10-15 years of age.  They are a bigger dog so they do not live as long as the smaller poodles.  So in otherwords, your dog live a good long life.  It wouldnt have mattered if you fed her differently.  I feed my dogs purina and they do just great on it.  Poodles do not need a special diet.  I do not know who told you this, but it is not true.  You feed them just the same as any other dog.  Some poodles will have food allergies to certain things but sounds like you havent had any issues what so ever.  Some breeders will feed BARF diets (bones and raw food) but I personally do NOT recomend it for poodles.  I have never had great sucess with nice coats and skin with the barf diets.  Now their are breeders out their that swear by it and others that hate it so it all depends upon your personal preference.  Food issues are very personal to people and it is all preference.  They are some very nice dog foods out there that you can feed your dogs like, biljac, flint river ranch, wellness, and others.  It all depends upon how your dog likes the food, how well they will eat it, and how that food effects them.  If your poodle likes the purina like mine do and is having no issues like itching, excessive licking, dander (flakeyness), or excessive tearing of the eyes then keep her on it.
