14 year old standard male poodle

Question
Reggie has been a PERFECT dog for 14 years.  In the last month, he has begun crying to go out at 11:30/12:30/1:30 in the evening.  Sometimes he urinates, sometimes he just wants to wander.  He has never done this in the past.  Usually he would go to bed at 10:00 and sleep through.  Could there be a problem or is this normal for a 14/15 year old poodle?

Answer
Hello Ellen and Reggie,
You might want to take Reggie into the Vet and have his urine checked to see if he could be having kidney problems first off.  Next, see if his drinking has increased before bedtime.  He might be drinking more during the day which causes him to have to go more during the night.
If he seems to be drinking more during the day, you should pull his water up about 2 hours before bedtime and make sure you take him out to relieve himself right before you go to bed.

Another thing you might do for him is make sure he is kept active during the day, so he is ready for bed at night.  Play with him or take him for an extra walk, or even get him into some light obedience/agility classes so that he burns any extra energy that he might have and you might find that he sleeps better all through the night.

I hope that this helps you and Reggie and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me.
