Phantom Poodle Fur

Question
I bought a phantom toy poodle last december from a local breeder. He was 3 months old then and had flat wavy fur. I asked the seller how come it still doesn't have the curly poodle fur (that i saw the parents have), and he said the poodle will get it later on when it gets older. He also recommended having it summer-cut when it reaches 6 months for the curly fur to grow faster. He guaranteed it was pure-bred, gave me the papers, showed me the parents and he just told me to give my poodle some time..

Now my poodle is 6 months old. He has wavy hair but not yet the curly ones i see other poodles have. The other poodles i see though either have tan or apricot color. I havent seen an adult one yet which is similar to my phantom poodle. I just had him summer cut as advised, and he now has really short fur like a mini-pincher's.

I was just wondering, how long would it take until he develops his poodle fur? Is it normal that my poodle still hasnt grown his curly fur by this point? Thank you so much!

Answer
Hello Sophia,
It is most common for a Poodle puppy to get its adult hair around 9-11 months of age, so if your Poodle hasn't gotten its curly hair in yet, don't worry, it should be growing in soon.  Also, since you had your Poodle trimmed, when his hair does grow in, it will be the more curly adult hair rather than the wavy Puppy hair.  Now that he has been trimmed, it will probably be around 2-3 months before his hair is long enough to curl.
You can help it look more curly by washing it and letting it dry naturally rather than brushing and blowing it dry.

I hope this answers your question.  If you have other questions for me, please feel free to ask me.
