Question
Hi, my apricot minnie poodle had her first litter of puppies 7 weeks ago. She was sired by a black registered champion, minnie poodle. Mum is unreg but a beautiful looking poodle, I also have an 11 yr old toy. The pups are black but most of them have small white marks some on chest and chin and white tips on back feet. At first look they look like labradors but this is not possible as no other dog can get in or out, and she was well minded during her heat. Only one has noticeably wavy hair. A visitor to my house said they weren't very poodley looking. This is my first litter of pups and I am a bit anxious about this. Can anyone give me some advice on this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Please send me photos of these dogs and I will take a look at them.  MsTopkdog@yahoo.com
Breeding could lead to them not having as curly hair as they should, but you should also know that Poodles don't get their curly hair until around 9 months of age.  Until then they have Puppy hair, which is more wavy than curly and also softer than adult hair.
Sometimes a puppy will be born with white on its feet or chest.  Normally this will go away or fade and won't grow back after the first hair clip.  It doesn't mean that your dog isn't purebred, it may mean that your dog has the gene for Parti Poodle.  If they do keep the spot they are called a MisMark Parti Poodle.  Like I said though, most times, if there is just a single spot on the chest or inbetween the toes, it will go away.

I hope this has helped you some.  Please go ahead and send me a Picture (lable it Poodle Picture so my junk filter won't throw it out) and I will take a look at them.
