agressive toy poodle/grooming problems

Question
Our poodle is about 3 years. She is not friendly with anyone except my husband and myself.(our children are grown and rarely around)  We have had her to dif. places to be groomed, and she behaves very badly.Three dif places refused to cut her again.  We bought clippers and tried to cut her ourselves, and she is still very, very agressive and tries to bite. We tried tranquelizers from the vet, but it made NO difference. We are very frustrated, and about ready to have her put down. Her hair is getting longer and longer!! She has never been mistreated, we got her at 6 weeks of age. We can't even take her to the vet because she behaves so poorly. It was a nightmear when we took her to be spayed. We can't afford behavior training.  Help!!!!!!  What can we do.
Thanks for any help you can give

Answer
Sounds to me like she didnt get the proper socialization she needed as a puppy.  Those first 8 weeks are very important and a puppy should NEVER leave its mom until 8 weeks or more of age.

Turn the clippers off.  Rub them while off on the dogs face.  Reward her with a treat only when she is still and not biting.  If she snarls or growls then reprimand her.  The instant she stops say a big GOOD GIRL and reward her with a treat.  This may take a while.  Do it several times a day for a week.  Then start the process with the clippers on.  You dont want to try and shave her just get her used to the clippers.  Once you make it past that then try clipping a little section and reward her for being good and reprimand her for the aggressiveness.  This is going to take some time and she may get even longer.  Just take your time and work through it.  Once you get her past the clipper fear you will be up and running.  Do little sections on her at a time.  If she acts like she is getting tired then reward her for being good and quit for the day.  Then the next day work some more gradually increasing the time until you can get her all done at once.
She may have had a scarry time at the groomers when she was younger that you dont know about that is causing the fear of grooming.  Just be patient and slow and keep at it.  As I said it will take some time.
