my husband and i adopted a 6 month old chihuahua. we adore her. shes been with us for two days now but every time that i go out of the room she barks uncontrollably. more whineing than barking but still. i live with roommates so she is blocked off from the rest of the house by baby gates. she has a huge (i mean huge) area to roam in. we turned the family room and rec room into our bedroom when we moved in and thats where she and we stay. I go to school part time for about 6 hours three days a week and my roomates are already getting tired of the barking. what can i do to break her of that habit.

this is a common problem my maltese does it he is so protective he hates me leaving the house can you introduce her to other areas of the house where your house mates are so she is aware that this is whats outside of her territory gradually keep doing this another good idea is putting the radio on for her to listen to lol it calms them and makes them less aware from the sounds from outside also get her into a routine eg. ok in your basket iv got to go out not them put her in her baskey and tuck her in and learn her to stay she may roam when you have left but make her aware of the routine of you leaving. let me know how you get on
