ELDER MALTESE

How are you?  We have had the great pleasure of owning a maltese for 17 years now.  Fluffy is an international traveler as we relocated from Los Angeles to Mexico City.
We currently live in Mexico City where Fluffy is constantly attended by his vet here at our home.  Our Maltese no longer can swallow food, thus he is given liquids (ENSURE). The cook also blends his chicken (white meet) in order to feed it to him via liquids. What is the expected life of a maltese?  We are doing everything possible to keep him going. He no longer can walk...and he is constantly complaining (growning).  We do not wish for him to suffer but we do not want to put him down.  Can we feed him anything else?

oh that is so sad i can never bear to think about when i lose my dogs but we have been close before. Dogs become such companions and when this happens its hard to accept is the swallowing problem due to old age or a medical condition.
I cannot suggest anyother foods that your vet has not already offered but might i suggest you try homeopathic remedies when my maltese had parvovirus we thought he was close to death he was hospitalised in the vets but i had a homeopathic remedy sent that you had to put drops on the dogs nose and the dog absorbs it they can help with immune system etc. it all depends on your opinions on them but at the point i used them i would have tried anything for the recovery of my dog. may i suggest though you use a reputable place otherwise some people may make you pay for lemon water lol.
