Pomeranian for me?

Question
I'm 14 and my whole life wanted a dog. Now, I recently moved and have two older brothers who are in and out of the house most of the time. My parents say that if we do get a puppy then I would have to take care of it. I have no object to this and I am willing too since I have been preparing my WHOLE life. I love animals very much but my family does not seem to share the same exact feeling. Now when I saw a Pomeranian I fell in love. I love its foxy look and its just so sweet I can't imagine having another breed! I read tons and tons on Pomeranians and dogs and every thing you can imagine just to be prepared.
I live in a split level house in the Long Island area. I'm at home from 7:30 to 5:30 so I worry that since my mom is not willing to care for the dog. (Well she said she will help if she gets attatched to her) what will the doggie do when I'm not home! My mom will feed her but do poms need a walk during the day? What age should I get? How can I tell that when I see a dog it wont be loud. I want an outgoing pom but not a barking mad one! I'm scared I'm not ready but my friends who have dogs take it easy. Am I overpreparing? Thank you so much! I have so many questions!

Answer
A puppy cannot be expected to hold its bowels for more than a couple hours so if it does not have a place to go or is not taken outside to go it will go where it si staying.  No Poms do not need to go on walks during the da but no dog can be locked up all day either.  They need room to move around, they need access to food and water during the day.  They need treats and toys to keep the preoccupied while you are away.  Since you are the one who will be responsible for this dog and I am guessing the dogs your friends have are family dogs then they get to share the responsibilty and you'd be the sole care giver.  Puppies will be the hardest and you may want to get a retired breeder girl from a loving breeder who is spayed.  If you get a rescue then you may end up with a Pom who has some emotional issue that you will need to work through.
You may want to make sure you will have the full support of your parents before bringing in a pet of any kind as they do not know they are only yours and may become attached to anyone in the house.
You can email me if you have any qeustions.
