Potty Training

Question
After my grandmother past in April my parents and I took in her two, now almost 7 years-old, Pomeranians. One male, one female, they are brother and sister from the same litter, both "fixed." Before my grandmother past the dogs were going potty on papers and pretty much anywhere they wanted, that was due to her illness. Now, that we have them we take them out on a regular basis, have a feeding time for them and we also have a potty (litter) box for them. They use the potty box a lot, we are constantly changing the pads in it. When they do go outside we praise them and give them a little treat, but a few minutes afterwards they are peeing in the house. They very rarely have accidents in front of us so it makes it harder to know which Pom has done the deed, that alone makes it harder for us to correct him or her. I have looked at most web info on the subject and have tried it, but most are for puppies and I don't know if the fact that my dogs are now 6 years old affects the way of doing things. We love the dogs very much and are willing to try anything to help them tell us when they have to go and to go either outside or in the potty box with no accidents. Any questions please feel free to email me. Thank You, Jill

Answer
Dogs live in the moment and most prefer to go in the same place all the time.  Give them the chance to learn a new routine with you and they will stick with it.  There are lots and lots of pom info links off the links page of my site.

And all the info you have collected on potty training for pups... :o) Try the ones that are comfortable for you and give it a while to sink in.

Best of luck.
