i am adopting a 4 month dapple daschund pure breed from the local shelter. His ears dont lay down is this a defect or will he grow into them?

Congrats on giving a homeless pet a chance for a nice home!  A 4 month should have longer ears and they should lay down.  If he is a purebred then it will probably be a poor breeding defect.  A purebred dachshund puppy at a shelter is a rare find!  Send me a link if you have one - I love looking at doxies!  Best wishes for you and your new family member.  Give him a hug from me!
