puppy pooping problem

Question
I bought a dachshund puppy Friday Dec 5.  She couldn't poop.  She was trying so hard her insides were coming out of her butt.  I called the pet store.  Someone who works there told me that they knew the puppy had a problem and that the owner of the pet store didn't want to pay for her medicine so he cut her price in half and sold her fast.  I can either have my money back and they will take the dog back and put her to sleep.  I can have 1/2 my money back and keep the dog and try to get her problem corrected.  I don't know what to do.  Will $250 fix a problem like this.  She is 4 1/2 months old, 5.2 lbs. When she did poop it hurt her and it looked like she hadn't gone in a week by the amount.  I love her already.  She is such a sweetie.  But I'm a college student without any income.

Answer
How awful.  The poor baby.  Taking her to the pet store is a death sentence for sure.  Your best bet is to take her to the vet and explain the situation and that you can afford $250.  My vet would work with me.  Where are you located?  I can see if I know any rescuers in the area who could recommend a vet.  She will get sicker and sicker so you need to take her ASAP.  Also, be sure to report the pet store to the ASPCA, the Better Business Bureau, and whoever else you can find.  If you are not sure how, let me know and I will help you.  I hope it is a locally owned pet store and not a chain - let me know.  It makes me angry that they would do that.
