Question
Hi.  It's me again.  I have a 5 month old male EBD puppy(will be neutered soon), Buster and a 9 year old female spayed terrier mix, Peanut.  Peanut will not accept Buster but he seems to really like her.  he always wants to be around her.  I thought she would put him in his place and eventually they would get along but today they fought over a Kong toy and she bit him for the first time!  They sleep in separate rooms, him in a crate.  During the day he sleeps in her bed and she'll sleep in his crate.  They seem to get along well outside (as long as he doesn't try to steal her ball) but inside whenever he gets near her she snarls and snaps at him.  They had seemed to be getting along better but she just doesn't like him.  I also have two kids, 6 and 4. The four yr old is constantly wanting to play with  the dogs and is a little rough.  Peanut has always tolerated him but now I'm worried that since she bit Buster she may bite my son.  She was always a very gentle dog but now she's so cranky.  Did I make a mistake getting another dog?  I am always home with the dogs and they get to play outside all the time.  My youngest and I throw the ball for Peanut and she gets plenty of attention.  What am I doing wrong?  Help.  I just want a reasonably peaceful household.  Thanks.

Answer
Peanut is an old dog, set in her ways, not used to having to share anything. This is perfectly normal behavior especially from a terrier.

You're not doing anything wrong, but I'm afraid you're either going to have to live with keeping them separate or part with one in order to keep peace in the house. Neutering might make a difference, but don't count on it.
