How should we select our bulldog?

Our family has had some interest in getting an English Bulldog for quite sometime now. I was wondering if there are things we need to look for when selecting the right dog for our family.  Should we buy from a breeder or pet store?  Can you recommend any breeders in our area? (Michigan)  Anything that you can tell me about the breed would be great.  Thank You

NEVER buy ANY dog from a pet store, please. When you contact a breeder, ask to see the dogs and how they are kept. Ask for the name of their veterinarian.
