White Bulldog puppy

Question
Hi.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted an English bulldog. I have found a litter for sale close enough to where I live here in Ireland and have fallen in love with the most adorable white puppy. However, a few people have told me that you should never buy a white bulldog puppy - that they should have colour and that in a litter if there is a white puppy they will be plagued by problems - heart, breathing and skin problems. I cannot see this question answered anywhere and in the breed guide it does say acceptable colours include white. I was really looking forward to Max coming home in two weeks but now I am full of questions. Can you help?

Thank you!!!

Answer
Hello Anna - I believe what your friends are talking about is an Albino puppy.  If the eyes are red in color, no pigment, then this is a sign of Albino.  Many problems plague people and pets with this albino condition.  If he does have SOME color, in his eyes, then he is not an Albino puppy.

White puppies do tend to have more skin and coat troubles than dogs of colors.

Good Luck with your little addition!
