Question
Our Boxer is now 8 and has been on prednisone and a thyroid tab 6 years. His feet swell with sores that he licks. The vet has never been aible to help this problem and he is of course allergic to everything. Recently his breath has become unbearable. He is still very active but limps alot when the sores get bad. All the vet says is up the dose of prednisone and keep his feet clean. This is a chore in the winter but we try. There must be some way to ease his problem. Any help is appreciated

Answer
First, I would see another vet.

Secondly, buy some baby booties (at a dollar store is cheapest) and put them on him every time he goes outside. Of course, you will need many, many pairs and wash often because you do not want to continue to use contaminated booties which defeats the purpose.

Without a picture, I cannot diagnose the "sores" however, a cream that will not harm him when he licks, might help the pain and swelling.

I do recommend oatmeal baths for him.

Aveno brand oatmeal bath is great! Soaking in oatmeal eases any pain and itching.
