Question
QUESTION: Hi there, i have a 10 month old boxer who is perfect in everyway but just one thing, his testicles have not decended yet. how long shall i leave it till i should take action? i have been told by a friend that there boxer only had one and it took a year for the other one to drop.

ANSWER: Hello Jason,

Actually, his testicles should have dropped by this age.

There is a condition where they remain ascended and never descend.

Your vet can examine him and tell if they will drop, and the vet can assist the descending either by manipulation or surgery.

If you are opting to neuter him, then the vet can do both at the same time. I prefer the type of neutering where they leave the testicles in tact, performing a vascectomy of sorts.

QUESTION: Hello Jannie, also will this affect him in any way? i have been told it actually makes them more hypo! but the only problem i have is when we go out on walks he pulls and pulls just to say hello to any dog he sees! even aggressive ones which could get him hurt. Is there any way to stop this?

Answer
Theo is gorgeous!

With undescending testicles throughout life, increases a chance of cancer- otherwise, no other problems that I'm aware of... ask your vet his recommendation.

As far as his over-friendliness to other dogs, keep a tighter hold of his leash and teach him not to react.

I would suggest leash training in your back yard.

Use simple commands to heal and sit, and it's okay to walk.

Practice with him and give him treats- and when you do take him on walks- treat him for not reacting to other dogs.

You don't want him to shy away or become aggressive, thinking it is wrong- but to OBEY you, not worry about other distractions.
