Question
I have a Boxer puppy that is 11 weeks old. We are having problems with him peeing on our floor and inside of his kennel. He can use #1 & #2 outside and come in. maybe 2 min. later he will pee on the floor! When he is inside of his kennel, if there isn't a blanket/towel in there to soak up the pee, he will lick it up. What do we do?? Please help!

Answer
First things first, sounds like his kennel is too big for him. He should just have enough room to stand up, turn around, lay down and get comfortable. A lot of people make the mistake of buying a crate way too big for the puppy. He'll have room to potty in it, thus killing the instinct to not mess your bed. If you get a smaller crate, he may still potty in it a time or two, until he has to lay in it. That usually stops that. You didn't say how long he's in it. Small pups can't hold it that long. How much water are you giving him? If you are giving him too much, it'll make him have to go constantly. Don't give water past 7 pm. The next time you take him out and then bring him back in, watch him. If he acts like he's going to squat, then throw a can full of beans or pennies, and yell NO! Don't throw it at him, just close by where it will startle him. I actually have a 10 week old puppy that I'm house training. It just takes patience and consistency. If you have to, when you bring him back inside from doing his business, put him in his crate for a few minutes to see what he'll do. Eventually, he'll get the drift. Oh! And clean his potty mistakes with a cleaner specific to animal urine. And the most obvious, when you let him out, go out with him. When he does his buisness, praise him. He'll understand that he gets praise for doing it outside, but get a scarey, noisey can and a loud NO when he does it inside.
