Question
Hi, Nicole, I'm back for more help!  Followed your suggestion to take our skinny guy off the SD and went for a product called BillJac.  You had suggested He loves it and is eating lots and filling out nicely, BUT the gas emissions are brutal!  I can be blamed for not taking him off the SD slowly, but is this problem ever going to go away?

Answer
Hi Barry,

I'm sorry that you misread my original answer but I would never have recommended BilJac to replace SD.  Here is part of my original reply to you:

3.  Science Diet.  What can I say about SD?  It's a lot of filler (corn, etc.).  For the money you're putting out for the SD you can get a much better quality (more digestible) food.  Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Dog Food is a good one, Nature's Recipe has no wheat or corn, etc.  These both have more digestible ingredients which means he'll absorb more of the nutrients and you may see him a bit more weighty.  If you want to stick with something of the same quality as SD, save a bit of money and go with a Purina One or Pro Plan.  My 7 are on Purina One with excellent results.  When I only had 2 or 3 mouths to feed I used the Chicken Soup and was really happy with it.

Your first question was on June 27th so your guy should just now be getting a full serving of the new food rather than a mixture if the switch was done properly.

You're having a gas problem with him because BilJac is, in essence, of lesser quality than Science Diet.  That, combined with the switch, can have you running for the hills!  :)

My suggestion to you, again, is to get him off foods with fillers.  If you find you can't remember what I suggested when you're at the store, read bags!!  You want to find a food with no corn and no wheat.  If need be, you can email me and I will send you a list of foods to look for that you can print out.  Telling me what store you shop at would also be helpful.  ;)
