Question
"Bubba"
We have a 7yom whom seems to hyperventilate when relaxing in the house. Upon lying down, he will begin to breathe between 60-80 times a minute!!! We havent noticed any loss of conciousness or seizing associated with this breathing pattern, but it has us concerned. Whats the normal respiratory rate for a boxer? As a note, he is a very large-frame AKC boxer (tipping the scales at 100lbs) but our vet says he is in perfect shape; just larger than normal.
AnswerBubba is gorgeous and he is a big, big boy.
That might be the cause for his breathing.
Boxers get hot very, very, extremely easy, and will pant even when laying around.
What might be considered a normal room temperature to you, is too hot to him.
I would suggest addressing this panting and breathing to your vet to check his lung health, but also consider a cooler house temperature.
Being as large as he is, is indication he becomes hotter than a smaller Boxer.
If he seems healthy in every other aspect, then checking his lungs for an okay, would signify room temperatures.
