Question

Boxers hyperkeratosis
I have a 8 month old boxer named rocky. Rocky has what the vet has called hyperkeratosis. his pads wont stop growing i have had them shaved and changed his food and give him a daily vitamin. also put cream on his feet 5 times a day. all 20 pads grow at a abnormal rate and have large cracks roght dow nto the skin and his dew claws seem to be growing back after they were removed. all the vets i talk to say there is nothing i can do. Any Ideas. thanks. Ryan

Answer
That is a rare disorder and horrible for him. Bless his heart.

I don't think there is anything else other than what you are doing.

Get on a schedule to have them shaved every ??? according to the growing pattern, and continue the creams to soften and alleviate his discomfort.

If walking on the sidewalk regularly helps file down nails, then maybe taking him for walks will help file down the pads too. Ask your vet next time you're in there for the filing.
