Question
QUESTION: over the weekend noticed my 9yr old boxer when she goes to get up from a nap or from laying down position begins to pee about 5Tbs amount have never noticed this b4.. we just treated both boxers with over the counter flea med and the 6 yr old has been itching ever since..wonder if both r a sign of alergic to flea meds or if my elder boxer is just experiancing bladder troubles

ANSWER: A 9 year old could have bladder problems holding her urination.  Take her to the vet and let him check for bladder infections, urinary infections, etc. before diagnosing age.

There are panties that will work for that. Pet stores and Online, carry a pantie (some are denim too) that has velcro fasteners and you put a pad inside it. They are made for their heat season, but work for bladder problems too.

What kind of flea medicine? And I hope it was not a "medicine." Do you mean a flea spray or once a month vile that you put on the back of their neck? Or a flea pill?

Does your 6 year old have fleas? That causes itching? Check him/her well. A bath will help you to see fleas.

To stop the itching, draw bath water in the bathtub ( or whatever you bathe them in) and add Aveeno Oatmeal Bath powder to the water. Doctors recommend it for people with poison ivy and poison oak to relieve itching.

The Aveeno bath oatmeal calms and soothes the skin and use an oatmeal based dog shampoo. That helps.

Get an anti-itching spray or ointment for dogs (some for hot spots work okay) and use that after dried.

Take them both to the vet.

Let me know what you used, i.e. flea stuff.

QUESTION: we used a vile of sergeants gold..never used that before My husband bathed both girls in dawn dish soap to releave itching and take away any medication left on their skin The six yr old seems to be itching less but has not stopped all together..they both look more alert today too. thanks for all your help will maybe try oatmeal bath and also apt at vet

Answer
Dawn dish soap (not Ultra if you can still find the regular formula) is great for them, and kills fleas too.

Sargents and Harts is not good quality products and I don't recommend using them.

Go to a pet store and get Zodiac flea once a month. All Zodiac products are great and relatively inexpensive. (i.e. available and don't have to pay vet prices)...

The oatmeal bath (Aveeno) is great. Don;'t forget it's great for us!

You can give the itching Boxer Benedryl for the itching and to alieviate the problem if it's an allergic reaction to the Sargents and/or flea allergy.

Go Online to Google Benedryl dosage for dogs. I usually give mine about 1cc twice a day. It will kind of calm him/her somewhat, but don't be alarmed.
