Bringing a kitten home - care for the first few months

Question
Dear Kat,

I would like to get two kittens from a friends litter.  They will be 2 months when I get them (in a week).  My questions are:
1.  I would like them to be indoor/outdoor.  How soon can I let them roam freely outside?

2.  We have 2 vacations planned this summer.  I'm a little worried about leaving the kittens while we are gone.  I can for sure get someone to come in a few times a day to feed/play with the cats.  Is that o.k. in your opinion or do you think I need a house sitter to be here most of the day/night?

3.  I have heard some cats go "stir-crazy" at night.  At what age can I put the cat outside for the night?

Thank you in advance for any advice you might have.  A timely response would be really appreciated as I'm not sure I'll even take the kittens because we have the vacations planned.

thanks again, Russell

Answer
Well to your first Q:A I would say that maybe at like ^mos in age would I just start to go outside and paly with the kittens. And as for your vacationing I would say that it would be ok for you to leave the little ones at home for a time, the only way I would actually worry is if it was just one kitten. And for the last one, it all depends on the cat and how comfortable it is outdoors.
