neutered male cat being aggressive to owner

16:18:15

Question
We have had our cat since a kitten.  At 6 months he was neutered.  He is now 9 monts old and has started acting really aggressivley towards my husband.  He has always been a very loving cat, and now he will not go near my husband, except to hiss at him and try to bite him.  My husband hasn't done anything to the cat, so he is really surprised.  The cat is fine with myself and my children, but we are becoming scared of the cat.  Yesterday my husband said that the cat tried to hump his leg, when my husband tried to get him to go away the cat tried to bite my husband and hissed and cried loudly.

Answer
Susan,

I have thought long and hard over this.  There is a possibility that he may not have had both testicles descended when he was neutered, and one is still there.  The vet can do a hormone titer to see if he has the male hormone levels of a neutered cat. His behavior seems to be very male, much too much male for a neutered boy.  In 3 months the males hormones should have dissipated by now.  Currently, it is major breeding season time, so if his hormones are not where they should be, he is reacting to all the females calling and does not really know how to behave.

I would have the vet thoroughly check this cat out and see about other possible health issues.  I would also keep an eye on him and see if he becomes more aggressive with the rest of the family.  We have seen cats become what we call "aggressive-psycho" kitties. It starts out with a bit of aggression that gets successively worse.  The outcome is not good.  This, fortunately is not common, so I would consider this possibility as a last resort.

Please keep me posted.

Concerned regards... Norm.
