QuestionHi Debbie.
I got a 4 month old cat in January. We got him from the SPCA and he was there because he was found roming the streets in Honey Brook. We got him de-clawed and fixed in Febuary. It is now April and he is peeing around the house and in the litter box. We do not understand. My parents have had 8 other cats. We also got another cat the same time we got this one. Not related and they are 5 monthes apart. The one goes in the box and the other doesn't. We don't understand. Please help!
AnswerHi Caroline, Good for you for getting 2 to become friends over time!
I found that when 1 isn't using a litter box, it may be because of the other one's scent IN a litter box. Get another box + keep the one you have.
You may have to put 1 kitty box in a bathroom with the cat that is peeing around the house and "retrain" him to go in the box, by keeping his food/water and potty box in the bathroom with him. Visit him often and highly praise him when he uses the box while you clean it. After a week, try to move his food and water out of a bathroom, but leave his litter box there. Just after he eats (within bout 5 minutes), pick him up and lock him back in the bathroom with his litter box. This is typically when they need to "go" :- 0
Please let me know how this works with the "retraining" or if you have any other questions. It does take about 6 months minimum for everyone in a new home to adjust and good luck hon.
