Question
Hi! I was so happy to read your description- you sound just like me! My kitties are my family and best friends! I have 4- Elvis (12), Oliver (10), Her Pur (4) and Ava (2).

I know that Elvis and Oliver are getting older and I'm wondering what all I should do to keep them in shape? I play with them all everyday but generally it's not extremely active play. I do know, though, that Elvis tends to head upstairs around 6-7 in the evening and goes crazy in our spare room. He runs around, chases his tail, jumps on things, jets into the other room...it sounds like the house is coming down and even the other cats cock their heads because he gets so crazy. I would think that would be a lot of exercise but I dont know if he needs more? And Oliver doesnt do that but he sometimes gets bursts of energy and runs all over the place. I feel like they are very healthy and playful for their age but I just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can for them. Any advice???

Thanks!!

Answer
Yes, Elvis and Oliver are heading into the older stages of cat life, but it sounds to me like they are still healthy and active. I do recommend changing their food over to a formula for Senior cats, and feeding the younger cats an indoor formula to maintain the best health for all of the cats. If you find that they won't eat the food you lay out for them specifically, or if you have always used one bowl for the cats, try just the indoor formula.

Watch the wet food and treats for the older ones, too. Those tend to have some unnecessary fats.

Make sure that they get the amount of attention they want, and a good 20 minutes of really good play, and I think you should have your friends around for plenty of years to come!
