When to move just born kittens and their mom

Question
A stray cat has given birth in my neighbours garage. The kittens are one week old. What should they do? Bring them to a shelter or leave them a bid longer and then bring them to a shelter?

Hi Iris, well of course I would rather see a cat anywhere else but at a shelter... but certainly do not move her now. Wait until the kittens are about 3-4 weeks old and then they can be safely moved with their mom. Perhaps you could run a free ad in the local paper to see if anyone does own her... sometimes cats leave their home to deliver their babies but there could be someone frantically looking for her.
