QuestionCan I treat my farm cats for ear mites myself? They are quite tame.
AnswerHi Paula. You can. Treatments are available at pet stores. But over-the-counter treatments are frustrating. You have to use them daily for literally 3-6 weeks, and usually, some mites survive through the treatment and there is a reinfestation once treatment is stopped. A vet can prescribe you a one-time treatment that goes in the ears, or a treatment called Revolution that gets rid of mites, fleas, ticks and some parasitic worms. However, outdoor cats are likely to continue to get ear mites. Ideally, I would keep them all on Revolution, which should be applied monthly, if it's financially possible. Not sure how many kitties you're needing to treat.
