Sexing my new friend

I just found a stray cat a few weeks ago. We decided to adopt him. We named him Patrick, but now we suspect that our new kitty may be a girl. Any advice on how to tell?

A whole male cat is rather obvious. A male kitten or a neutered male looks like a colon ( : ) under the tail, where the top dot is the anus and the bottom dot is the penis sheath.

A female kitten or or cat looks as if it has an upside down exclamation point ( ! ) where the top dot is the anus and the bottom line is the opening to the vagina.
