Question
Hi, I am pretty sure my cat is arround 59 to 63 days pregnant, in the last few days 3 or so, I have been able to see the babies move inside her from a great distance her milk sacks starting to plump up quite a bit this morning, she has been eating frequent small amounts for over a week now and continues to get under the kitchen sink and just lays on the lynolium, I made her a box, but she wants nothing to do with it she will go to the door and cry but will not go outside unless I do. Normally this cat doesn't like any one but my daughter, but the past week or so, she is stuck to hubby and I like glue and wants nothing to do with my daughter, HA, maybe it's because my daughter brought home a puppy last week!!! The cat feels betrayed I guess. My question is this, how do I get the cat to deffer from wanting to have her kittens under the kitchen sink? I have tried all I can, and I am running out of options, I just don't feel it would be very sanitary... I have put her food and water dishes in my bedroom closet which also has a lynolium floor but doesn't seem to interest her... Any suggestions??

Answer
Hi Melissa, your cat is going to feel very unsafe with a new pup in the house just before her kittens are delivered so you will have to be extra cautious with the door as she wants to go outside (where there is no pup) and have her babies.
For some reason she feels that under the sink is a safe place. Usually you can get them to use a different place once they are in labour and not before. Have a second place set up and keep showing it to her... and KEEP THE PUP AWAY FROM IT>.. don't even let him sniff it ! Have it in a nice quiet place in a bedroom that the pup doesnt enter. Then when she goes into labour put her into that box and if you sit with her she will have the kittens there.
I have never seen this fail ! as long as you are there when she is in labour you should be fine. Teresa
