Kittens and baths...

Question
Hi.  I just got a new kitten yesterday, and I have one older cat.  Unfortunately, I had received my older cat at a younger age, and she isn't much of a people cat.  Well, I wanted to make my new kitten as much of a people cat as possible, but I also wanted to make her able to take baths...  from what I've heard, with animals, it's best to teach them when they're young.  Such as brushing and those type of things.  I gave my cat two baths yesterday, and two today...the kitten is around 2-3 months old.  Is this bad for the cat in any way?  I'm planning not to give it another bath until next week.  Thanks.  - Avi.

Answer
Hi Avi,

Why in the world would you want to give a cat a bath in the first place?  They are very capable of keeping themselves clean.  And two baths a day is way excessive.  Even a bath a week is excessive.  Do not bathe the kitten at all.  I showed cats for 20+ years in cat shows, and we learned then, that unless they are being shown, they do not need a bath.

If you want to teach your older cat to be a people cat, just play with her and love her, and pay a lot of attention to her.  If you keep bathing your cats, they will end up not liking you very well.

Please, don't put your kitties through this.... as to them, a bath is torture.  Please write again if I can be of further assistance.  Hugs, Barb
