Question
My cat, whom I've had for several years now, is going blind. I'm very sure of that. He's AT LEAST 14 years old. We got him when my cousin found him as a stray. I'm not sure how much older than 14 years he is, but we've had him for that long. I wish I could tell you his history in greater detail, but I can't because I don't know it.
In the past two weeks, his eyes have gotten...I think people call it a pigment. It's pretty much the same thing in humans. His eyes have no color, and such. My mother, a few weeks ago, said that he can still see because he still jumps around from my furnature. But I'm not so sure now.
Unfortunatley, we've been forced to move him to a new location, and I'm worried the stress of that has made his condition worse. He's acting paniced, and won't budge an inch from where ever you set him. I wouldn't be worried about him, were it not that he NEVER stays put. He's a premadona cat that doesn't sit where you put him. He moves around the entire bed and finds HIS favorite spot.
But now he doesn't move. He just sits there. And he growls when something moves too quickly for him to have seen it before hand.
Could he be completely blind now? Or is he still becoming blind?

Answer
It's hard to say whether he's got any sight left unless a vet takes a look.  I would recommend a vet visit.  This may be cataracts, but there are numerous other conditions which can cause a haze over the eye and loss of vision.  Many of them are treatable.  And most are quite painful.  I think right now the most important thing to do is have the condition diagnosed and set up a treatment plan if the vet believes it's causing pain or may be treatable.  Even if the condition can't be cured, some problems, like glaucoma, are so painful that a cat may shut down completely, refuse to eat, move or use the litter box.

Once the condition is diagnosed, if it's a progressive problem that will cause irreversable blindness, then it will just take time for him to get used to it.  Cats adapt to blindness very well in general.  The move has probably got him more upset than anything else.
