Question

Billy
Hello Karen, I have a nine yr. old female cat. I have had her for 8 years. Recently I brought home a 3 mo. old male kitten. I know that Tabatha is very jealous of the kitten. Because she has been vieing for my attention much more that usual. However the past few days I have noticed that her voice has been getting weaker and she almost strains to talk to me. Could this be caused by the stress of another cat? Or do you think that it could be something worse? We have a older male cat that was here before Tabatha and there is not any problem between those two. Nor does the older male really care one way or the other about the kitten. Thank you.

Answer
Hi George,

Very cute picture. She can have laryngitis. But I would get her to a vet and get her checked out. She may have picked up a little cold from your new guy. And if she is stressed out this will knock her down some. I am attaching a recipe for something called kitty glop. Feed her this. This helps kitties who are under stress. It is very nutritious. And it's easy on the throat. Hope she feels better. Good luck.

Ciao, Karen

KITTY GLOP

INGREDIENTS:
1 can evaporated milk (not sweetened condensed)
2 tbsp. plain yogurt (not low or non fat)
2 tbsp. mayonnaise (real not light or No-Fat)
1 tbs. Karo Syrup (light)
1 pkg. Knox gelatin
1 egg yolk (beaten, )
1 cup Pedialyte (unflavored)
1- 2 jars Stage One Baby food (chicken or turkey)

INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix milk, yogurt, mayonnaise, baby food, and syrup together well. Bring 1 cup pedialyte to boil and mix in Knox gelatin. Set aside. Mix egg yolk with small amount of milk mixture and beat well.

Add gelatin and pedialyte to milk mixture and beat well. Add in egg yolk mixture and beat well. Remember to not use egg substitute and keep egg white to a minimum.

Pour into bowl (with cover) and set in refrigerator. Glop will last for two weeks covered in refrigerator. Try freezing the mixture in ice cube trays and store the cubes in the freezer, thaw as many as needed.
Always warm glop to room temperature ,(milk form), or a little warmer, before feeding.
