Question
All of a sudden my aprox. 8 month old cats started laying around stopped eating and drinking 3 days ago now one is better on it's own eating and drinking a little and walking ok, last night we gave both 1 one line on the iv bag each, one cats ok other now eating small amount of cat food and drank a little, carried outside and still hasn't went to the bathroom and back legs weak. What could cause this? I'm praying the iv will help. Could it be stagnent water? They stay in the yard so I wasn't thinking poisoning, please help if you can. Thankyou

Answer
Hi Kathy.  It's really impossible to say.  The kitties need to have a physical exam to gather more information to make a determination as to the most likely cause of their illness.  I think poisoning is a valid concern.  Infection may be as well, even though it's odd they would come down with it at exactly the same time.  Cats are usually somewhat resistant to bacteria in water, but other pollutants in stagnant water could certainly make them sick.  Whatever the case may be, it sounds like the kitties are seriously ill and need to see a vet right away.

Best wishes!
