Pregnant Cat, maybe overdue

Question
Hi Norman,
My cat is very pregnant. I am unsure of the date she got pregnant. I know I was chasing her outside, after the kids let her out. She is an indoor cat. She is extremly large and has been showing for about 5 weeks. She isn't leaking breast milk, and her temperature is normal between 100.4 and 100.7. I have felt fetal movement for about 3 weeks. Her eating habbits are a little increased but her activity is slower. She is wadling like a duck. She is not showing signs of hiding, or any unusual activity. I am extremly certain of all time frames, except the conception date. She is just not showing any signs of getting ready. What should I look for and how will I know when she is too overdue.

Answer
Michelle,

Gestation is usually 65-67 days with 63 days being a normal minimum and 69 days being a normal maximum. We start counting from the second day of breeding.

So watch for her milk dropping, a mucous/bloody discharge, nesting behavior in the birthing box (you have provided), restlessness. Any or all of these signs can occur right before birth or up to a week before birth.  Every queen is different.

This should give you some idea.  If the cat is not distressed, you should not be either.  You can always have her up to your vet for a check up.

You will have to play it a little bit by ear, since you really do not know how long she has actually gone, thus far.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards... Norm.
