Question
why does our cat paw or "knead" our blankets?
i have seen kittens do this type of behavior whil nursing. she is two years old. thank you!

Answer
Beth,

You have actually answered your own question.  Kittens knead each side of mama's teat to help get the milk flowing.  They hear mama's purring and associate the kneading action and the purring with feelings of deep contentment.

This behavior does persist into adulthood.  Thus the kneading and purring are signs of deep contentment in the adult.
