Using the sofa again!

Question
I have a one year old neutered male cat, and basically ever since he'd been neutered, he started peeing in three spots.  The sofa, the chair, and my pillow.  Well, he quit peeing on the chair and the pillow, and once I started letting him outside again he quit peeing outside the litter box all together.  Then he started again.  I'm going to get him checked for a bladder infection, but I'm afraid it may be behavioral.  You see, I don't want him to be an outside cat, but I'm afraid he goes outside because it's less stressful.  I live in a small house with a two other people, and two dogs, a pomeranian mix and a german shepherd mix.  My kitty, Grigori, seems to get along with all of them, and he only pees on the sofa when no one's around, except maybe the pomeranian (he has full run of the house except the bedrooms).  Is there something I can do, if this is behavioral, to make him more relaxed inside without completely inconveniencing my roommates?

Answer
Hi Christa,

After you get him checked out by the vet, get a product called Feliway. Spray it around the house. It helps in situation like you have. It acts as a kitty tranquilizer and calms him down. Whatever is bothering him should be aleved with this stuff. Clean the areas off where he has been going with an enzyme urine cleaner so he won't smell where he did the deeds. Make sure his litter box is cleaned everyday. And try using a scoopable litter if you aren't already. Cats seem to prefer that stuff. Good luck and let me know what happens.
