mother cat that lost kittens

Question
if a mother cat looses her kittens and has a full set of utters that looks like they are full of milk what can be done to make sure she doesn't get a fever or some other physical complication?
thanks,
rudy

Answer
Rudy,

We tend to do nothing.  If the kittens are gone and there is nothing to stimulate the milk glands, the milk will dry up.  She may "pack up" for a week or so, but the excess will get absorbed and all will be well.  Even so, occasionally, things do go wrong, so if she shows any signs of "hot ares" on her mammaries, she would need to see the vet.

Best regards... Norm.
