2 month old kittens vs. 5 month olds

Question
Hi
I'm still in the process of trying to get a kitten (found 2 breeders; 1 that breeds Maine Coons and also Ragdolls and 1 that breeds Siberians). The Siberian breeder has her 5 month old kittens living with her and her other pets and they seem very socialized (except for children as she doesn't have any for them to be around). The other breeder who has the 2 month old Ragdoll and Maine Coon kittens keeps hers in cages with the siblings until they reach the age of 3-4 months and up when they are moved to a room that is attached to her house and then they are exposed to more human contact than when they are little. My question is this:
We have dogs and kids and want a kitten that will learn to adjust to our home. I already know that my dogs are good with cats (that has been tested since the last time I posted and am happy to report that good news) and I know that it will take an adjustment period no matter what the age of kitten I get..but which would be better as far as the socialization and DOES IT REALLY MATTER WHERE THEY ARE KEPT BEFORE YOU GET THEM WHEN THEY ARE VERY YOUNG SAY 1-2 MONTHS OLD AS IS IT MORE THEIR OWN PERSONALITY THAT WILL DETERMINE THE BEHAVIOR/TEMPERMENT OF THE CAT? I know that the breeds that I have chosen are all great in temperment but I wonder whether to get a younger kitten or not. What would also be the advantages/disadvantages of either?
Thanks,
Stacie

Answer
Stacie,

My feeling is that the older (4 month old and 5 month old kittens) will cope better with your situation.  That extra socialization really helps and the kittens do better.  If you use the protocol I gave you to introduce your new kittens to your situation, they will all do better.

Best regards... Norm.
