getting my cat to except the new member of our family

Question
we recently was given a kitten from a neighbor that was gonna be taken to the humane society. our cat melvin at home we thought would embrace this but has not. He hisses at the kitten and us, we still set time aside for melvin alone to assire him he is still loved is there anything i can do to make him get along with baby kitty? PLEASE HELP

Hi Andrea it sounds like  you are doing the right thing already. Just keep giving Melvin lots of attention and keep the other cat in a separate area of the house for 3-4 days. Some cats never adjust to a new cat but you need to give it 2-3 weeks to see if that is the case for Melvin. are they both neutered and spayed?? Teresa
